Many people think that in a crisis situation, "somehow it will be okay." The problem is that under stress, a person does not act wiser — they act according to what they have learned.
That's why it's worth asking yourself a simple question: In case of danger, can I react, or do I just rely on luck?
In an emergency, the following often occurs:
shock,
panic,
freezing,
information chaos.
This is normal. That's how the brain works. But it can be limited if you know beforehand:
what the priorities are,
what the procedures are,
what to do step by step.
This is exactly what practical training is for — so that in a real situation, the body does not "shut down" completely.
Answer honestly:
Do you know what to say when calling 112? (where you are, what happened, how many people, what condition, what you are doing)
Can you assess if someone is breathing? (and what to do if they are not breathing)
Do you know what using an AED looks like? (in practice — without theory)
Do you know how to behave in a fire? (smoke, doors, evacuation, not using the elevator)
Do you know what to do in case of aggression/threat with a knife? (escape, hiding, alerting, avoiding confrontation)
If for a few questions you have "I don’t know" — that’s not a reason to be ashamed. It’s simply information that it’s worth brushing up on the basics.
Many people are afraid to react because:
they don’t want to interfere,
they are afraid of making a mistake,
they are afraid of responsibility.
Meanwhile, lack of reaction is the worst scenario. In a crisis, what matters is:
calling for help,
securing the scene,
supporting the injured,
organizing others around.
You don’t have to be a rescuer. You have to be effective.
In situations of threat (e.g. aggression, attack, chaos), the priorities are simple:
Run, if possible
Hide, if you cannot escape
Alert (112, shouting, communicating with others)
Help, if you can do so without endangering yourself
This order is crucial. Because an injured person will not benefit from your help if you yourself become another victim.
A safe society is not just services and regulations. It’s people who:
react,
can cooperate,
do not underestimate signals of danger,
have basic knowledge.
That’s why social education really matters.
Yes. And that’s the best approach.
The goal of preparation is not to live in tension. The goal is calm that comes from knowing that:
you know what to do,
you have basic tools,
you can react.
This is the difference between fear and agency.
A crisis does not ask if you have time. A crisis does not ask if you are ready.
That’s why it’s worth doing one thing: increase your awareness and practical skills.
What matters most is not whether you will ever have to react. What matters is whether if you have to — you will know how.
